Five WellsExplore a Well

Physical Well

Movement, health, and energy for learning.

The Physical Well recognises healthy bodies, active play, effort in PE, and attitudes that respect fairness and teamwork on the pitch or in the playground. It includes movement for wellbeing, not only sporting success.

What this Well consists of

The Physical Well gives staff shared language for experiences beyond a single subject grade — clubs, corridors, liturgy, playtimes, and community life.

  • Effort and improvement in PE and sport
  • Active play and outdoor learning
  • Healthy routines and self-care
  • Fair play, honesty, and respect in games
  • Supporting others to take part

Examples staff might recognise

Schools define their own activity names; these are typical Physical moments primary colleagues celebrate.

  • Gave full effort in PE despite finding it hard
  • Encouraged a teammate or included someone in play
  • Showed fair play when rules were tested
  • Took part in a walk, run, or active challenge
  • Demonstrated good sportsmanship after a loss

What the Physical Well does

For staff

Teachers and coaches record Physical recognition from the classroom, playground, or club — using your school’s activity list so language stays consistent.

For pupils & families

Pupils see physical contribution valued alongside academic success. Adventure Valley (Five Wells Journey) reinforces that movement and health are part of who they are at school.

For leaders

Spot pupils who rarely receive Physical recognition — they may need encouragement to join clubs, interventions, or accessible activities.
